We’ve officially broken ground on our latest multi-million pound project, the Bishopton Dargavel Satellite Facility – which marks a significant step forward in meeting the healthcare needs of the growing community in Bishopton and Dargavel Village.

Working alongside Hub West Scotland and NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde through a detailed pre-construction period, designs were developed to meet a range of requirements to ensure this building could function well for practitioners, visitors and the wider community as an element of the wider masterplan for the site.

The schedule of accommodation seeks to provide five consulting rooms, one treatment room, four multiuse rooms and one community room. These aim to maximise the clinicians’ ability to deliver services in as broad a manner as possible.

At the core of the facility’s design is a commitment to sustainability, driven by SDaC (Sustainable Design and Construction) where decisions were measured against the key themes. Throughout the design process, embodied carbon was tracked and a key consideration in overall approach and material selection.

An ambitious target for in-use sustainability has been addressed through a fabric first approach with an air tight, highly insulated envelope, high performance windows and a large roof mounted solar PV system.

Our sister division, Fleming Timber Structures designed and optimised the timber frame solution utilising I joist/studs and are manufacturing, and installing the largely timber structure which has had a positive impact on the overall embodied carbon in the project.

We’ve set an additional carbon target for the project delivery phase, with many of the necessary actions already aligning with our internal goals for carbon reduction and our journey towards achieving Net Zero.

Having recently refurbished the existing Bishopton Medical centre as well as developing the early years some 100m from this site, we are delighted to continue our work with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and the wider community with a range of enhanced social value commitments.
